Dentures - What You Need To Know

Most people refer to dentures as false teeth. This is correct as dentures are a set of false teeth. Although dental implants are another form of false teeth as well and are permanent. Dentures are not permanent. They are a set of teeth that are made in the form of your mouth that have to be affixed to the roof of the mouth or the bottom of the mouth with adhesive. They need to be cleaned every night by taking them out and soaking them in a special solution.

In order to get dentures, all of the teeth have to be removed from the section of the mouth. This can cause swelling and the dentist will usually wait for the swelling to go down to put in the dentures. Many people with bad teeth will opt for top dentures only, instead of a full denture set. Most people who have dentures agree that it is easier to keep the top dentures in the mouth than the bottom dentures.

Dentures are not permanently affixed to the mouth. Unlike dental implants, they must be removed and cleaned. There are special cleaning solutions that are used to care for dentures. Denture care is important to keep the dentures clean and eliminate the potential of an infection from keeping the dentures in the mouth too long. Most people take their dentures out at night, put them in a special solution and then put them back in their mouth in the morning. There are special adhesives that are used to make sure that the dentures do not slip.

Denture care also involves making sure that you eat carefully. Many people report that dentures can slip or even break if they eat foods that are very hard, such as corn on the cob. An increasing number of dentists are perfecting dentures so that they are more resilient to eating different foods and there are better adhesives on the market today that make it more comfortable to wear dentures. Before dental implants were discovered, dentures were the most preferred form of false teeth.
